Juxtaposition Photoshop (process)

I had a hard time figuring out exactly what I wanted to do, so I ended up playing around with images a lot.

For the first piece I was actually looking for a picture of a lion for something else (a project that I scrapped), and I ended up liking the image to much that I decided to make it the main focus of a piece. Then I took two different images of me (with wax and makeup on my face), and cut up my eyes and mouth in different ways. I used it as a way to compare myself to the lion in a way, sort of to explore some self expression.

I actually redid my first piece because I ended up not liking it. Instead I decided to do a piece on gender. For the photo on the left, I dressed up as a "boy," and for the picture on the right I dressed up as a "girl." I wanted it to be obvious that both pictures are me, but I am displayed in a very different way; but still me. I wanted this piece to be about how gender and sex doesn't really matter in terms of who someone is.

For the second Piece I took a drawing that I did of myself (featured in this blog), and then I put my mouth and eyes over the face. In this piece I am compairing myself as a drawing to myself in real life. I also made the background bright pink in order to create more contrast and disturbance in the eyes.

Check out Sheida Soleimani, your art reminds me of hers a little bit always.
